The art of Valeria Matveeva-Nibiru is notable for its reif nement and bloodthirstiness. At the website of the artist the visitors are met by her favorite character – the magic little girl, the illusive cobweb, weaved of white lines on a coal- black background drawn by the claws and feelers of the monster of Mariana Trench depths of subconsciousness, the electric crab-skate- octopus. However, as well as in the real nature, nothing is stronger than a cobweb, including the linear drawing cobweb sewed little girls. In their following embodiments the gothic Thumbelinas of Valeria Matveeva-Nibiru begin alien journeys, they extort myriads of amazing living beings, sometimes update their living space by arranging mass executions of
fantastic little animalcules or their household deputies – furry toys. Valeria Matveeva, famous for her posed photographs and video, has started to draw and paint just recently; and the fantasy land arisen in her workshop in less than a year amazes by its ingenuity and variety of landscape and habitancy. The durability of the cobweb is derived by its mission; it represents a weightless spatial structure, an artiifcial screen on which desire must steadily materialize in its most ruthless form. The ruthless beauty of the embodiment of desires on the verge of life and death bewitches.
